Learn a bit about us!
Methodist International
House in Manchester was founded in 1956 by the Methodist Church to
welcome and support international students coming to Manchester.
It
is a self catering private hall of residence, ideally located within
easy reach of the universities and colleges. MIH is a perfect place for
postgraduates from overseas to study, with students from over
25
countries each year. The House is noted for its peaceful setting and
very friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
Over
the years MIH has provided a home for generations of students from a
wide variety of backgrounds. It extends a warm hospitality to students
of every world faith or none. It provides an important forum for people
from the UK and abroad to meet and learn from each other, to make
lifelong friends and establish links across cultural divides.
MIH offers friendship and care to students who are far from
home, as well as providing space, resources and support during their
time in Manchester. We are proud that we have provided facilities and a
welcoming home for students from all over the world.
As one resident has put it “The year I spent in
MIH is one of the happiest periods in my life so far. Many of my friends
said that their lives in the UK were so boring and did not understand
why I enjoyed my life so much. I always tell them that the place I live
makes all the difference.”
During its first 50 years MIH has welcomed
hundreds of students from many countries around the world and built up a
very strong international family community. The recent 50th
anniversary celebration saw the opening of the new facilities, enabling
up to two disabled students to enjoy the comfort and support of MIH
whilst they study in Manchester.
You are welcome to visit MIH at any time, but by
appointment please, to see the house for yourself.
